do this for yourself…

brushes are often overlooked… we use them then simply throw them back in our make-up case not caring much for the condition we leave them…  this is usually the reason why the brushes we buy do not last as long as we hoped for!!

so what is proper brush care and what are the benefits it will give you besides longevity?

when applying your make-up, your brushes mix with your cosmetics as well as the oils on your skin…  over time, this could cause the bristles of the brush to clump together causing your make-up application to not go as smoothly as you would like…  that fine line you like for your eyeliner may not be obtainable with a dirty brush!!  not caring for your brushes may also cause different shadows to mix together in your brush creating a color that you never intended on using!

dirty make-up brushes carry BACTERIA!!!

okay, so now you know what happens when we don’t care for our brushes…  so how do we clean them?

you can wash your makeup brushes in warm, soapy water, using an antibacterial soap, shampoo or a hand sanitizer… there are also special products for cleaning your makeup brushes…

i have been using this brush cleanser from M.A.C for years!!!

its cleans the brush well and drys fast…

lipstick brushes may need extra care because of the extra emollients in lip colors, which can make them sticky and hard to wash… wash them with a gentle oil removing wash you may already use for your skin, and take your time, working out the lipstick from the brush bristles…

shape brushes while wet and let them dry to preserve their smoothness… lay them FLAT instead of standing them on end, or you will damage either the bristles or handle of the brush… wash them gently, never scrubbing or the hairs will start to come out…

follow any cleaning instructions that come with your makeup brushes in case they have special requirements and if you can’t make up your mind to commit to cleaning your brushes, you can always buy disposable sponge brushes and throw them away more frequently…

especially if you suffer from very oily skin or acne, make sure you’re always using a clean makeup brush to minimize bacterial problems that may increase your skin trouble…

whatever you do, don’t use the same makeup brushes day in and day out without washing them… aside from harboring bacteria, makeup pigments bind with the oils from your skin, making brushes sticky and dirty… makeup colors can change, becoming darker or more orange due to oxidation and to mixing with skin oils or dust, making a mess of your daily makeup routine…

clean your brushes once a week to keep them working properly, and if a brush becomes stained or misshapen, throw it out and get a new one…

beauty starts from the very basic…

i know it sounds very very troublesome having to clean ur brushes once a week!!! i know… you have better things to do… BUT why bother spending loads of money on skin care products to “help” revitalize your skin and applying layers and layers of makeup to “cover” your flaws if YOU SIMPLE CAN NOT BE BOTHERED TO SPEND A LITTLE TIME ON THIS ROUTINE?
